The Tea Party was great, but what next? Some have asked about having another Tea Party, some have suggested having a get together (a ‘pork-out’ aka pig-pickin), and some have suggested visiting the offices of our elected officials. What are your thoughts? We have completed an action (the tea party), but now we need to determine a future course of action. It can’t stop here. I personally would love to meet people in an informal environment to brainstorm and assess the level of commitment to change.

Thoughts? Ideas? What have other areas done?

Fellow Tea Partiers, thanks for taking the time to attend Greenville’s Tea Party. I hope you all feel it was a success. Our presence there shows that each and everyone of us possesses the courage and patriotism that makes America the great country it is. So many of us had probably been wondering if we have been alone with our thoughts of frustration of the government’s lack of fiscal restraint. I personally found much comfort in be in a crowd of like-minded individuals. The signs and enthusiasm was great. My favorite part was witnessing the absolute fervor the participants near the street provided-they didn’t care about the speakers-they had a message to share! It was great!

There was a lot of talk since the Tea Parties occurred, some very negative. This negative talk about “what good is that?” “what a bunch of right wing extremists” “don’t they realize we have to have taxes?” shows the absolute ignorance whether intentional or not, on the part of many people. In my mind, if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. Those not involved seem to think the Tea Party’s were comprised of people that don’t believe in taxes. That is so far from the truth as you know. This is a prime example that demonstrates the amount of misinformation out there and one’s unwillingness to learn. What is of interest is the sheer amount of ten of thousands of people that attended such events around the nation. If you get a chance to check out the wordpress site featuring Chicago, Il, they have some great pics there. This is the event where the CNN reporter made the mistake of bashing the attendees, who quickly let her know she was not correct in her report of the activities. You may also have heard how strong FOX News ratings were on Tax Day with their constant coverage of tea party’s around the nation. Seems to me that those not able to make it were there in spirit.

My point is WE ARE NOT ALONE IN OUR DISMAY AND DON’T LET ANYONE MAKE YOU THINK DIFFERENT. Continue to educate those who don’t understand. I have yet to meet a person that doesn’t care about their wallet.

Again, thank you so much for your attendance at the event. I am truly inspired by everyone’s effort and I am sure you are too.

One third of the budget is deficit spending, money we don’t have! That is on top of the $12 trillion we already owe.

How much is $1 trillion? Consider this: A million seconds is 11.5 days. A billion seconds is 32 years. A trillion seconds is 32,000 years. We must strongly oppose the move to make ours a socialist country.

This reckless spending is a moral issue. We are passing on to our grandchildren a debt that we created. Every man, woman and child in the country already owes $35,000, and we are piling more debt on them. We are robbing them of their right to enjoy the American Dream.

On April 15, AFA is sponsoring TEA Party rallies in 1,672 cities to send a message to Washington that we want a fiscally responsible government. It is not too late to organize a TEA Party rally. But if you can’t organize a rally, contact the local organizer and ask how you can help. And be sure to attend and take a car load of friends with you to the rally.

You can find all the information you need at TEAPartyDay.com, including how to organize a TEA Party rally, location of rallies in your area. organizers and much more.

Thank you for caring enough to get involved. If you feel our efforts are worthy of support, would you consider making a small tax-deductible contribution to help us continue?

April 3rd, 2009 8:35 PM Eastern
‘Tea Parties’ — A New Political Movement Is Brewing
By Peter Roff
Senior Fellow, Institute for Liberty/Former Senior Political Writer, United Press International

Washington’s continued mishandling of the economic crisis has disquieted the electorate. The bad economic numbers, the precipitous decline in the stock market, the dramatic increase in government spending and the tax increases lying just over the horizon paint a picture of an out-of-control federal government grasping at straws in the search for solutions.

These are not, some of the organizers of individual events point out, complicated events to stage . . . The key is that there are many events occurring all day on the same day — this is what brings them their sense of community and their political strength.

President Obama and his economic team’s proposals can be summarized simply as more borrowing to pay for more spending offset by more taxes. Even the president seems to acknowledge this — “Listen, I will take responsibility,” he said in California. “For everyone in D.C. scrambling how to blame someone else,” he said in a reported deviation from his prepared remarks at a Town Hall meeting, “just go ahead and talk to me.” But he continues, as he did when he blamed the Bush tax cuts for the current economic troubles during last Thursday’s White House Online Town Hall forum, to pass the buck to the previous administration.

The president and his advisers seem slow to comprehend that occupants of the Oval Office get to claim credit for good news they had nothing to do with and must accept the blame for bad news not their fault, as was the case when American saddled President Bush and the Republicans with the responsibility for last year’s near-doubling in the price of gasoline.

In the case of the current crisis the blame appears to have been assigned almost totally to Obama, at least by the thousands of U.S. taxpayers attending near-spontaneous “tea parties” in protest of the Democrats agenda of more taxes, increased spending, higher deficits and a surge of borrowing to pay for it all. These mass protests, which have been occurring in different spots almost weekly — 2,000 people in St. Louis, 3,000 people in Cincinnati, 6,000 people in Orlando — promise to culminate on Tax Day, April 15, with at least 300 protests at sites large and small according to the “official” Tax Day Tea Party Web site.

As was the case with the Obama campaign, the new “Tea Party Movement” is bringing people out to engage in politics, many for the first time in their lives. And, again, as was the case with the Obama presidential campaign, these activists are making liberal use of new media technologies like Twitter and Facebook to find supporters and allies, to meet each other and to establish a sense of community, a community of people who are being economically oppressed by the new burdens being placed on them by the Democrats who now are in complete control in Washington,. D.C.

These are not, some of the organizers of individual events point out, complicated events to stage. They don’t need expensive backdrops reminiscent of Greek temples behind them or the presence of all the major broadcast and cable news networks (with attendant commentators explaining deeper meanings) or thousands of people to achieve success. The Tea Party movement, say national supporters, would be just as happy to have 10 people outside a U.S. Post Office on April 15, spreading their message, as they would be with 10,000 people on the Las Vegas Strip. The key, they say, is that there are many events occurring all day on the same day — this is what brings them their sense of community and their political strength.

Part of the genius of the idea rests in its historical significance –everyone can relate to the story of how Sam Adams, Paul Revere and others in the Sons of Liberty dressed as American Indians in a nighttime shipboard raid to dump British tea into Boston Harbor. But there is also genius in the simplicity of the idea itself, of using the tea party as a metaphor to bring people together to speak out as one against the ongoing effort to borrow, spend and tax the nation deeper into the economic doldrums.

The “Tea Parties” augur the beginnings of a new political movement, it is now clear, that may eventually exceed the power of MoveOn.org and others of the new liberal pressure groups in their ability to influence the votes of politicians in Washington as well as state capitals in every region of the country.

Written by Eric Odom on March 30, 2009 – 11:10 am

Want to protest your government by going to a Tea Party event? DENIED!

Remember this report from our nation’s history?

CNN (Continental News Network) Boston, 1773: The city of Boston canceled a proposed protest over tea taxes today, citing the fear that too many people dressed as Indians would be gathered near the wharves. Organizers expressed sadness over the cancellation, but meekly returned to their homes fearful of upsetting the officers of the Crown. Taxmen breathed a sigh of relief as the tar and feathers were put away not to be used this day.

You don’t remember that pre-revolutionary history? I should say you shouldn’t, because it didn’t happen. But flash forward a few hundred years and you’ll find it is happening today in Cape Coral, Florida where city officials canceled a tax day tea party gathering because they “feel too many people could show-up.”

That’s right, folks, the God-given, long-held American right to assemble and protest the actions of our government has been canceled due to too much popularity of the protest.

And what does it come down to? Money. You see, the city officials want an insurance policy taken out so that organizers can cover any loss that might occur as a result of the rally. And those insurance policies cost hundreds of dollars.

The tea party organizers of Cape Coral, though, aren’t the only ones to find this restriction of their free speech and rights to assemble. Tea party organizers all across the country have begun to find out just how difficult, if not impossible, it is to be “allowed” to exercise their God-given right to speak their minds against government excess and criminality. City governments all across the country are charging fees for “permits,” forcing organizers to pay out huge sums for “insurance policies,” and binding tea party organizers in all sorts of government red tape.

In many instances, organizers are being told that they aren’t “allowed” to hold rallies on government property. Imagine that? We, the taxpayers of the city/state/federal government aren’t “allowed” to gather on property that our own taxes paid for.

And then there are the “permits” required to reserve the day, arrange the police protection, and clean up afterward. Often those “permits” can only be applied for at certain times a year, precluding any spontaneous assembly. Also, these “permits” can be denied with no reason stated quashing at birth any plan to exercise the right of assembly.

Here one might wonder how it is that we so often see those lefties appearing on our TV sets engaging in their many organized protests? Don’t the flotsam and jetsam of the far left seem to have large protests all the time? One might be drawn to imagine that the government is involved in some sort of grand conspiracy to allow those with anti-American sentiment, the moonbats of the left, to march with impunity. But, hold the tinfoil hats, won’t you? Because the wackjobs of anti-war ilk and the shrill, circus acts of the Code Pinkos are expected to cut through the same red tape the tea party organizers have been confronted with. The lefties are just better at it.

You see, contrary to popular conception, the far left has some deep-pocketed backers (your George Soros types, unions and even government funds) and a raft of organizations that do “protests” as a full time job. Their protest marches and rallies are far from spontaneously organized. These groups are thoroughly knowledgeable about the red tape and governmental hoops through which they must jump to carry off a successful protest assembly. After all, the hatemongers of the left are intimately intertwined with city governments all across the country. They understand what needs to be done because, by and large, city officials used to belong to, or belong still to the sorts of groups that plan lefty protests. Your new president is one of them. Being part of government, these leftie protest marchers help write the rules, being intimately associated with government they are quite well informed about what is required and how to get around or satisfy those rules.

But the obstacles are coming as a shock to the average citizens that love this country. For their whole lives peace-loving, work-a-day Americans have taken for granted that there exists the freedom to assemble completely unaware that those rights have been eliminated by stealth regulation by governments all across the land.

And now the folks in Cape Coral, Florida have learned their lesson.

Americans do not have the rights they always thought they did. There is no right to protest government. There is no right to assemble. The people have no rights at all to voice their displeasure. Shut up people. Go home. Nothing to see here. Go quietly back to your IPods and DVDs. Big daddy government will take care of you. The Obemmessiah will decide what’s best for you. Don’t worry your little heads. Oh, and thank you for your payments on April 15th.

Put away the tar and feathers, won’t you? There’s a nice fella.
